ASME SA 335 Grade P9 Alloy Steel Seamless Pipes are Carbon Steel
Pipes with subsequent addition of chromium, molybdenum and
sometimes vanadium are known as chrome moly Pipes. ASME
Specification alloy steel Pipes are used for high temperature
service applications. Seamless Alloy Steel Pipes according to ASME
SA 335 Grade P9 are reheated and furnished in full
annlealed,isothermal annealed or normalised quenched and tempered
condition. ASME SA 335 Grade P9 Alloy Steel Seamless Pipes have a
typical chemistry with additions of 8.00-10.00 Chromium and
0.90-1.10 Molybdenum. Bearing minimum tensile strength of 415 Mpa
ASME SA 335 Grade P9 Pipes have a minimum yield strength of 205
ASTM A335 P9 Alloy Steel Pipes
ASTM A335 P9 is the part of ASTM A335, The pipe shall be suitable
for bending, flanging, and similar forming operations, and for
fusion welding. The steel material shall conform to chemical
composition, tensile property, and hardness requirements.
Each length of pipe shall be subjected to the hydrostatic test.
Also, each pipe shall be examined by a non-destructive examination
method in accordance to the required practices.
The different mechanical test requirements for pipes, namely,
transverse or longitudinal tension test, flattening test, and
hardness or bend test are presented.Both ends of each crate will
indicate the order no., heat no., dimensions, weight and bundles or

- Pipe may be either hot finished or cold drawn with the finishing
heat treatment noted below.
Mechanical Tests Specified
- Transverse or Longitudinal Tension Test and Flattening Test,
Hardness Test, or Bend Test
- For material heat treated in a batch-type furnace, tests shall be
made on 5% of the pipe from each treated lot. For small lots, at
least one pipe shall be tested.
- For material heat treated by the continuous process, tests shall be
made on a sufficient number of pipe to constitute 5% of the lot,
but in no case less than 2 pipe.
Notes for Bend Test:
- For pipe whose diameter exceeds NPS 25 and whose diameter to wall
thickness ratio is 7.0 or less shall be subjected to the bend test
instead of the flattening test.
- Other pipe whose diameter equals or exceeds NPS 10 may be given the
bend test in place of the flattening test subject to the approval
of the purchaser.
- The bend test specimens shall be bent at room temperature through
180 without cracking on the outside of the bent portion.
ASME SA 335 Grade P9 specification covers nominal wall and minimum
wall seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipe intended for
high-temperature service. ASME SA 335 Grade P9 Alloy Steel Seamless
Pipes ordered to this specification shall be suitable for bending,
flanging, and similar forming operations, and for fusion welding.
Selection will depend upon design, service conditions, mechanical
properties, and high-temperature characteristics.ASME SA 335 Grade
P9 Pipes may be either hot finished or cold drawn with the
finishing treatment. SA 335 Pipes can be provided in quenched and
The Manufacturer shall provide Material Test certificate of
inspection to the purchaser stating that the material has been
manufactured, sampled, tested, and inspected in accordance with
ASME SA 335 Grade P9( including year of issue), and has satisfied
all the requirements of ASME SA 335.In addition to the information
required by Specification A 999/A 999M, the certification shall
state whether or not the pipe was hydrostatically tested. If the
pipe was nondestructively examined, the certification shall state
and show which practice was followed and what reference
discontinuities were used.

Wall thickness is average wall or according to ASME SA530.
